Yarn Bombing Jungle Book
2nd April - Members Projects
As I have a number of family birthdays coming along in quick succession, I thought this would be a good time to make presents rather than buy them.
The tree is embroidered onto a piece of felt & embellished with beads, then mounted & framed.
The lacey piece is small pieces of lace & silk which I've layered & stitched into position. Mounted & framed.

29th March 2020 - Members Projects
Hopefully you will have received an email from Pat Screaton about sharing your finished projects with us all whilst we are in lockdown.
These are Gina's completed projects
This is My flower panel for the Cosby Quilters banner.
I've had a small piece of liberty lawn fabric for some time & not known what to do with it. It seemed ideal for this project.
I used bondaweb, cut out the required pieces and ironed them into position. Using 2 layers of scrim on the back of the fabric provided by Jo, to give me a stable backing, I used free motion stitching to add details and give a 3D effect. It
was simple, quick and satisfying!
This is my 'Little Birdie' made using a Gilli Theokritoff pattern. It's mostly running stitch with a little back stitch, so very simple. She ran a workshop for us some years ago, which was very relaxing and enjoyable. Since then I've made
several 'Birdies' as presents for friends and thought it was about time I did one for myself.

This is Vicky's Project
I started this in 1971....being rather pregnant......and finding time on my hands.
Obviously there wasn’t enough time.....as I’ve only just finished it!
It measures 40 x 21” and I think I’ve I bought it from Prima magazine.
Does anyone else have anything that became vintage before it was completed?

Pat Screaton has been using her time at home to sort out all of her stash. She has found some yarn which she feels could be used for the Cosby Yarn Bombing. As you know the group's project for this is the Jungle Book and most of the yarn she has found is pastel colours and probably not suitable. If anyone is involved in any of the other projects please contact Pat if you are interested in the yarn in the photos below.

Cancellation due to Corona Virus
In response to the news around Corona Virus (COVID-19) and the measures we have all been
asked to take by the government and their medical advisers the Committee have taken the decision to cancel Cosby Quilters monthly meetings for the time being. There will be no meeting in April 01/04 or May 06/05, and the Gail Lawther workshop, scheduled for
31/03 is also cancelled.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep in touch with any updates via email and this blogspot.
Hopefully it will not be too long before we can return to the exciting 2020 program we had planned. In the meantime, should you be looking for something to do (and reduce
your stash), then this may be the ideal opportunity to begin work some of the longer term projects we have initiated:
For those who knit or crochet - There's Cosby Yarn Bombing - Jungle Book theme, so we are looking for leaves, jungle plants and animals. Sue Wilson is co-ordinating this, please contact Sue on 0116 2863832 or 07840 204543.
The Big Textile Show is at the end of October - now might be a good time to work on a piece to display on the stand, (large or small), so that we can showcase our good work
to the general public.
Cosby Quilters Banner - many of you have committed to produce a small (A5 + 1 inch border all around) flower panel for this. If anyone else is interested, the orientation of the piece must be portrait and please ensure that the design remains within the A5 space as when the pieces are joined together the design will be cut off if there is any overlap. If you are going to embroider your flower/s do remember to put a stabiliser on the back, so that the size of the piece remains the same.
Take care of yourselves everyone, and see you again soon.

March Meeting
At our monthly meetings we often learn how speakers got into sewing/quilting, some in childhood and some much later, but none perhaps like the picture painted by our March speaker Gill Towell.
She described her path from electronics management at a high level to a thriving patchwork, quilting and sewing business. Her teaching from her studio in Maidenhead and on-line involves pupils of all ages. We were shown examples especially of her projects with children and young people, some of which may have been seen at the Festival of Quilts at the NEC.
